Barksdale Australian Labradoodles – Health & Breeding FAQs

Yes. Barksdale has been breeding verified, registered Australian Labradoodles for nearly 20 years with overwhelmingly positive results. All of our dogs are registered with the Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA) and conform to — or exceed — every ALAA health standard.

Every Barksdale parent dog completes a comprehensive set of evaluations to ensure the strongest possible foundation for our puppies. This includes:
  • Hip Testing – OFA and/or PennHIP
  • Elbow Testing – OFA
  • Eye Exams – Board-Certified Ophthalmologist with OFA certification
  • DNA Profiling – Orivet
  • Full Breed Health Panel (Genetic Diseases) – Orivet
  • Full Breed Trait Profile – Orivet

Yes. We actively participate in and support ALAA Health Surveys, which track long-term health outcomes across the breed. This allows us to continuously refine and improve breeding practices for the well-being of our dogs and their forever families.

Unfortunately, cancer is a disease that can affect all dogs, across every breed and background, regardless of health testing or lineage. While our thorough health screening significantly reduces the risk of many inherited diseases, there is currently no genetic test that can prevent or predict all cancers.
What we can assure families is that:
  • Every Barksdale dog comes from carefully selected, health-tested lines.
  • We stay updated on the latest research in canine genetics and oncology.
  • We stand by our families with compassion and support if health challenges arise.
